Why Should We Study Computer Aided Designing -
1) To minimize errors in the interpretation of shapes and forms of an object drawn by Conventional 2-D drawings.
2) Your designs may be e-mailed to a third party in just minutes for review anywhere in the world with Internet capabilities.
3) Thought to reality takes tremendous jump into the future now. If you have an idea this morning, you could see a tangible useable model the next day with the Model Maker.
4) Your designs can be presented quickly to your department, or client for approval.
5) Several drawings of the same object viewed from different angles have to be made. This process is not only time consuming, but drawing conflicting diagrams of the object makes very often mistakes.
6) Many designing and manufacturing companies are increasingly using computer-aided design (CAD/CAM) programmes and tools to create and better visualization of the final product.
7) Computer models allow greater ease and flexibility in exploring a number of design alternatives, thus r
Why Should We study 2D & 3D
Let me take this opportunity to explain the importance for designers to learn 2D and 3D jewellery designing:
If you are a designer and your client requires to see the design, first you will create the 2D of the jewellery not the 3d, the 2d drawing will be made in a specific view, if you are designing a ring, you will make the design, and the top view.
You can make more than one view, but it can’t be customized.
Suppose I want to see the ring up-side-down, looking at the amount of gold you have scooped, that would not be possible.
After the ring has been made in 2D then we make the 3d of that drawing, that 3D drawing will be made in such a way that it can be prototyped too.
You can make the ring in 3D and send it to your client, who can see the same drawing from any part of the globe, the way we wants, and rotate it, and check out minute details of the jewellery.
The trial version of JewelCad is freely available so, you can always send a copy of your 3D drawing to the client for him to check, there will be no software problem too!

Where as 2D can be exported to a jpeg if you need to send your files to your clients.
This is the significance of 2D + 3D.

What is the difference between computer aided designing and  manual designing?

Manual Designing, was the only form of jewellery designing until the introduction of Computer Aided designing (CAD).
With the introduction of Computer Aided Designing (CAD), jewellery which was drawn – designed on the paper (canvas) identical drawing could be made on the computer with much higher complexity and accuracy compared to manual designing.

Time:
Given a “X” period of time, a designer can make 5-10 designs on the computer compared to a design made manually.
If a designer makes 1 design using permutation and combination that one design on the computer can lead for 5-10 drawings which would not be possible if the jewellery is drawn manually.
Colour & drawing:
On the computer you are exposed to 13 million colours, you do not need to be good at drawing or an artist do draw on the computer as the tools available for drawing make it much simplier.
Clients:
If you design is made on the computer you can send your drawing to clients in any part of the globe via email.
That’s the best part it keeps you connected with your clients, from all parts of the globe.

How 2D Works?
2D software uses images called bitmaps. These consist of blocks of color stacked together to make a picture. Each image can be “in-scale” with the others, making them easy to size for basic design & layout. The images can be very lifelike, but only show one view at a time, usually a top view. The versatility of 2D allows images to be taken from anywhere. Printed catalog items, existing items, or inventory lists can all be captured easily. Having this starting image makes the task of modifying it much easier. A limitation of 2D is that only 1 angle at a time can be captured and altered, similar to a pencil sketch.

How 3D Works?
3D software uses computer-generated lines, surfaces, or solids to create 3D models of a jewelry item. With a 3D model, you can assign specific metals, gems, and colors to make a rendering. These renderings can be very realistic and can be generated and viewed at any angle around the item. Modeling in 3D is very different from drawing or designing in 2D. The 3D style of drawing has a higher degree of difficulty than 2D. Although each 3D program has ways of tackling these tasks, none of them is a causal effort.

What 2D Can Do For You?
In the retail jewelry world, most of your time is spent trying to get the customer to say “Yes!” to your proposed design. The length of time required to get that “Yes!” can be greatly reduced using 2D software. 2D clears up about 95% of the communication problem by allowing customers with limited jewelry knowledge and experience to actually visualize the exact design you are trying to sell them. In looking at the newer 3D products, be wary of people trying to criticize 2D to help sell their 3D product. This is a big misunderstanding of your needs and the strengths & weaknesses of the software. If a big part of your day is working directly with customers, it’s hard to beat the ease and quickness of 2D software.

What 3D Can Do For You?
3D truly represents a new era in the jewelry business. It is now possible to design something in exact detail, accurately sized, and have it built to exact scale. You can test ideas, try different variations, and see every aspect of the model. Once complete, your model is ready to go to a CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) machine to be created. The wax will be near perfect in every detail. The most important issue in using 3D technology is your dedication to learning the program. You have to practice and spend time to get good at it, just like any other art form

Features of CAD/CAM  Jewelry 3D Modeling In Jewelry Design And Industry

3D  files are utilized in a broad variety of fields. The medical business uses thorough models of organs. The movie industry employs them as characters and substance for animated and real-life action pictures. The video game business uses them as property for computer and video games. The science segment uses them as greatly detailed models of element compounds. The architecture commerce uses them to show proposed buildings and landscapes in the course of Software Architectural Models. The engineering society uses them to show designs of new devices, cars and structures as well as a multitude of other uses. In previous decades the science community has started to build 3D models.

Why are designers designing today using jewelry cad design methods  important today?
Jewelry design has evolved from pencil drawing to the use of computers. Today Jewelry is designed using computer aided devices.

In ancient times, the goldsmith or metalworker used crude tools for the fabrication of jewelry. All this has been replaced by the coming of the computer age. Jewelry Cad design has aided the jewelry trade to come up with the most intricate of designs. Further, the design and later production of custom designs has given the industry a lift during hard time as are experienced lately.
Jewelry Cad design is important today, because without it, the most intricate designs as are being produced in this day and age would not have been possible without the computer. The designer is capable of producing, on the screen of a computer, the design as he envisions it. A 3d jewelry model looks like the finished piece in precious metal, except that tit has been manufactured in wax or a resin. From this the process of manufacture is either the direct casting to precious metal or the making of molds made out of silicone. The jewelry model designed in 3d/cad comes out of the present machines flawless, which reduced machining or other alteration a bench jeweler would have to make.

3d jewelry is today referred to as the product that is the result of a designer designing a jewelry piece using CAD. The 3d model represents completely all aspects of a finished piece. The 3d model can be rendered with our without stones in various software programs so that a customer can see the finished piece before it actually has been finished.

Jewelry CAD design is a major step forward for the industry. This has become commonplace and anybody who is still stuck in the old ways, will fall back, never to be able to catch up to the standards these new technologies are setting. The 3d models is as well referred to as CAD model.
Jewellery may be made from a wide range of materials, but gemstones, precious metals, beads and shells have been widely used. Depending on the culture and times jewellery may be appreciated as a status symbol, for its material properties, its patterns, or for meaningful symbols. Jewellery has been made to adorn nearly every body part, from hairpins to toe rings.

The word jewellery itself is derived from the word jewel, which was anglicized from the Old French “joule”, and beyond that, to the Latin word “jocale”, meaning plaything.
With this technology, a lot of jewelry company with 3d modeling improves the quality of their jewelry models. They create a model with high accuracy and 100% of symmetry and thus improve their own collection and production.

How It Works?
1. You need have a sketch .
2. Then 3d model from sketch.
3. 3d Milling machine or 3d printer to get wax model from 3d model created by 3d modeler.
4. Then Jewelry 3D Modeling will finish jewel…

These wax models were created by Solid-Scape.
There are lot of other 3d printers and milling machines. Here I’ll show you some wax models from other 3d printers.
